The 3 and 4-bar play day trading entry was created by Jared Wesley of Live Traders. This thinkorswim (TOS) indicator alerts audibly and highlights the chart pattern using the following criteria. Configurable settings are underlined. Additional settings and defaults are below in the description. Works for both long and short entries. Highlights both 3-bar play and 4-bar play.
- Bar one (ignitor bar) has ignitor vol multiple times average volume
- Ignitor bar’s range is ignitor multiple times larger than an average bar
- Ignitor bar’s high breaks the highest high of the lookback period
- Ignitor bar’s close is within ignitor close percent of the bar’s range of the high (long bias) or low (short bias).
- Bar two’s low is in the upper bar two ignitor percent of the ignitor bar
- Bar two’s high is near the ignitor bar’s high; specified by trigger range min and trigger range max

Use this indicator in combination with the Position Size Calculator for thinkorswim for fast calculations and fast entries! This download includes both the bullish and bearish TOS scanner code so, in addition to being alerted to the charts on your grid, you can keep scanning for new setups!
Available user settings and defaults:
bias: Long or Short. Default Long
ignitor multiple: Default 2.0
ignitor vol multiple: Default 2.0
ignitor close percent: Default 25
look back period: Default 10
bar two ignitor percent: Default 50
trigger range min: Default 90
trigger range max: Default 110
show arrows: Yes or No. Default No
alert sound: No Sound, Ding, Chimes, Bell, Ring. Default No Sound
